Happy Monday, everyone! I’m linking up with Tara at Running ‘N’ Reading and Katie at Marvelous in my Mondays for this week’s weekend update.
Hi, friends! I ran my first 10K on Saturday!!! I’ll recap it on the blog tomorrow, but I am so happy and proud of myself for accomplishing a new milestone. Although I know I don’t need races to call myself a runner — I feel a little more like one than I felt on Friday.
Let’s get to the weekend. I went to Truckeroo on Friday night in the Navy Yard and chose a grilled cheese with carmelized onions from The Big Cheese truck for dinner before the race! This would have been a fine idea had I not followed it with an ice cream sandwich from Captain Cookie. Don’t get me wrong — it was the best ice cream sandwich I’ve had. I chose vanilla ice cream mashed between one warm chocolate chip and and one peanut butter cookie. Unfortunately, my stomach didn’t appreciate the delicacy as much as my tastebuds did. Luckily, it didn’t affect my race in the morning, but I was nervous.

On Saturday, I woke up early, walked over to the Lawyers Have Heart 10K on the Georgetown Waterfront and earned my first medal. After the race, I walked home, showered and treated myself to brunch at Founding Farmers. I ordered eggs florentine and a mimosa, but once my breakfast arrived I decided to request my favorite strawberries + cream waffle too. I received a few funny looks from the people next to me, but I was starving. No regrets. I didn’t have a lot of food to eat in my apartment post-race so by the time I reached the restaurant…I was ready to inhale everything in sight.
The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing, enjoying a bottomless mimosa brunch at Eastern Market on Sunday with an out-of-town guest and meal prepping for the week ahead. Sunday’s dinner included a lemon pepper salmon and an incredible spinach, quinoa and roasted vegetable side my roommate made. Sunday also included one heartbreaking Game of Thrones finale. Why do we subject ourselves to the pain?!

How was your weekend? Do you have a lot of food trucks where you live? Did you also catch last night’s GoT finale?
Congratulations on your first 10K! That’s awesome! Your post race breakfast sounds delicious as well. Strawberries and cream waffles? Yum.
Have a great week!

Thanks so much!! That waffle was so good. Somehow they manage to make it light and less cake-like — just how I love it!

OMG too funny! We had those exact 2 trucks host my daughter’s grad party yesterday. Seriously the best grilled cheese I’ve ever had!

When I ordered the waffles in addition, I told the waitress I had run a 10K this morning and she said, “We’ve had a lot of runners in today treating themselves!” And I laughed because I bet it was so true! 🙂

Thank you! 🙂 I highly recommend FF! Reserve a table on OpenTable to avoid the wait, but the food is worth it!
