Happy Monday, everyone! I’m linking up with Tara at Running ‘N’ Reading and Katie at Marvelous in my Mondays for this week’s weekend update.
I hope everyone had a happy, long weekend! I was incredibly fortunate to have my family in DC this weekend, and thus the past few days was crammed with good meals, plenty of family time and a really heavy dose of soccer viewing. Here were my favorite parts:
Playing tourist. We stopped by the Smithsonian Folklife Festival: Peru, walked through the National Art Gallery, and enjoyed downtown D.C. However, we unanimously decided to not brave the National Mall for the fireworks, and ended up doing a very un-touristy thing: catching a viewing of The Terminator in Chinatown instead and catching a glimpse of the fireworks as we exited the theater. It was perfect.

Watching soccer. On Saturday, Chile played Argentina in the Copa America, and the U.S. Women’s National Team played Japan in the World Cup final on Sunday. My father was born in Chile, and it was exciting to cheer on the team as they won their very first Copa America! They ended the game in penalty kicks so we were all biting our nails near the end. And if you’ve heard anything about Sunday’s game, you know the women performed INCREDIBLY. We were all dying — they crushed it! A hat trick in the first 15 minutes!

Visiting Alex’s office. On top of my family, Alex’s sister was in town, and both visitors had the chance to visit his company’s new-ish office in Shaw. It’s located in a former Wonder Bread factory, and is huge. He works for a digital agency, and the space they created to work in is really incredible, but granted…I get to visit, I don’t have to work while I’m there 😉 My little sister’s favorite spot was the nap pod, and I loved using a scooter to get around the space (and maybe the stocked kitchen with the jar of twizzlers…and the color coordinated meeting rooms…and the dry-erase board painted walls). Back to the scooter, do you think 24 is too old to ask for a scooter for my birthday?! Haha!

Enjoying time to read. I started reading Amy Poehler’s Yes Please, and I got sucked in. Amy is the best. Paired with an ice coffee at Big Bear Cafe? Even better.

Sunday also marked my first completed week of half marathon training! I’ll post a recap tomorrow 🙂
How was your weekend? How did you celebrate the 4th?
It was probably a good idea to skip the Mall for fireworks! Sounds like a fun wkd with family in the city. I love playing tourist when I have family/friends in town. Congrats on completing week 1 of half marathon training!

Oh, my gosh, Victoria; what an awesome weekend!!! I’m so jealous! The Smithsonian Folklife Festival: Peru sounds amazing (I am partial to South American culture!) and I love the National Art Gallery. I’m so delighted to hear that you are enjoying Yes Please; I loved that one! I listened to the audio book version on several different days of running and it was fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing your weekend in the link up and I’m glad you and your families had such a great time.

I bet the audiobook version was great! Did Amy Poehler do the voicing? I love podcasts for running, but I should definitely take advantage of the time running and try some audiobooks. I love your link-up! 🙂 Have a happy Wednesday!

Victoria, not only does Amy Poehler read, but she also has Kathleen Turner, Jane Fonda, Seth Myers and Nick Offerman; it’s awesome! I was hesitant to try an audiobook while running, but I think I like them!

That sounds like the most fun audiobook. I would be cracking up so hard mid-run!

Camping is such a great summer activity! I haven’t done it in a long time. I highly recommend checking out the goal recaps. The women played incredibly. 🙂
