Weekend Wrap-Up: Week #2 Down, FoBo, and the C+O Trail

I’m linking up as usual with Tara at Running ‘N’ Reading and Katie at Marvelous in my Mondays for this week’s weekend wrap-up.Screen Shot 2015-05-31 at 8.11.55 PM

Hi, everyone! Another weekend has come and gone, but it was a good one. Despite working Friday-Sunday evenings, I filled the the better part of each day the best way I could.

On Friday, I ran in the morning, with a surprising minimal amount of humidity, and spent the afternoon at Big Bear Cafe. It has a beautiful outdoor garden hub and serves delicious coffee and a mean grilled cheese sandwich (aged cheddar + granny smith apple slices). I made headway on my thesis proposal, which I have admittedly put-off until it became a scarier endeavor than it needed to be. I went off to work at 4pm and was luckily sent home an hour earlier than expected. This meant time to start The Walking Dead and proceed to finish off the night with clips from John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight to avoid dreaming about zombies. Does anyone else need to watch something light-hearted after a scary movie or show? I used to do this all the time after watching Criminal Mindsespecially right before bed.

On Saturday, Alex and I went to Union Market for our favorite morning breakfast bagel + coffee stop. The market was oddly quiet for a weekend morning, but the red line was down between NoMa and downtown DC, and I just don’t think people could metro there even if they wanted. After breakfast, we shopped at Salt & Sundry, a really cool, local shop, for a wedding gift for our friends. We’ll be in Ohio for four days next week to celebrate the happy couple! Alex and I had a lot of fun picking out the gift, and I’m looking forward to wrapping it up but not so excited about nervously preparing it for the flight. #Fragile

Different weekend; same set-up

We left NoMa in the afternoon for Foggy Bottom and took advantage of the chance to try the relatively new Beefsteak restaurant on the GWU campus. I chose the Eden, which had quinoa, a lemon honey dressing and a whole load of green veggies. I snuck in time at the apartment gym while Alex picked up the food and then we spent a little time on the apartment roof pool before I had to leave for work. I’m happy I’ve mastered a crown braid this summer or else I was ready to roll up to the store with dripping, pool-wet hair.

On Sunday, Alex and I started our long runs in Foggy Bottom. I chose to run on the dirt and gravel paths of the C + O trail in my Hoka Challengers, and Alex ran up the Rock Creek Trail. He had 7 miles on the calendar for his Marine Corps Marathon training, and I had 4 for my half marathon. (Side note: Alex is raising money for the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors if you’re interested in supporting his fundraising!). I only had to dodge geese once and spotted a little turtle in the canal!

After a quick shower, we had brunch at Kafe Leopold (I ordered the avocado toast + poached eggs, which are in that little glass container below) and somehow still made room for Pinkberry. I cannot resist buying it when I’m in Georgetown. It’s just too close to pass up!

As I write this, I am picking at all of the groceries we purchased at Trader Joe’s because I am somehow still  hungry. I am ready to get in a little thesis progress before work at six. It’s going to be a long night so I plan on crashing as soon as I am home! Week #2 of half marathon training is in the books, and I’m ready for week three.

Have a wonderful Monday, everyone!
