Thinking Out Loud: Running + Walking

I’m linking up with Running with Spoons again for Thinking Out Loud. Thanks for hosting, Amanda!

Happy Thursday, everyone! Let’s play catch-up…

Remember when I was freaking out about my graduate thesis proposal deadline a couple weeks ago? I got it in! I’m actually pretty excited about what I submitted and looking forward (as much as one can) to completing it in the fall. It’s time to finish this degree and do something with it. Anyway, it was a big weight off my shoulder heading into last week’s wedding weekend, and now my brain can resume worrying about the next deadline…moving day! I’m thinking of this as an opportunity to purge unwanted/unused material possessions, and make a new place home 🙂 Stay tuned for “adventures of moving a very large couch in a medium-sized car across downtown DC.”

There is very little room in the aforementioned car when the backseat is stuffed with a mattress. Also, when there is hot pizza on your lap – EAT IT.

This Sunday will mark the completion of my first month of half marathon training, which is pretty incredible. I was down for the count in the third week of my 8K training last July (the consequence of going from zero running to three times a week). I am still running and walking all of my mileage (I had a little calf/shin pain spring up two weeks before training began), but I’ve almost finished four weeks of training without a flare-up. Success! I’m going to keep pausing for those walk breaks if it’ll get me to the finish line.

I wished the henna would stay forever 😦

It’s frustrating to pause when I want to push myself and check my endurance, especially when my lungs aren’t burning, but then I think about having to stop running altogether and consequently, embrace the run/walk method. I’m slowly trying to decrease the amount of time I spend walking, and that’s much more manageable when I have time for a longer warm-up and cool down.

P.S. I watched Finding Traction today, which follows Nikki Kimbarll’s record attempt on the 273-mile Long Trail. Perfect inspiration during your evening foam roll session 😉

P.P.S. Go try this chocolate at TJ’s! Think dark chocolate + heat + pop rocks. Fireworks.

Chocolate + Pop Rocks + Heat!
Chocolate + Pop Rocks + Heat!

What do you have planned for the weekend?

  1. I have such a love/hate relationship with moving… it is definitely the best motivator to declutter : ) No big plans this weekend which I am A.OK with : )
