It’s been a a couple of weeks since I’ve been able to join the Friday Five link-up…and I’m happy to jump right back in with this week’s topic: A Day in the Life! Amid vacation, I didn’t plan ahead to document an average day, so I’m taking the opportunity to share a bit of my trip up north. Here’s Tuesday, August 4th, in the mitten.
7am: It is hard to roll out of bed at a decent time on vacation (especially after a long travel day), but I’m glad I did. I headed into town with my parents, aunt and uncle and caught my first glimpse of Frankfort in the daylight. Our first stop? Petals and Perks for caffeine. I went with an iced americano. Who knew that was a thing?!
8:30am: As it was a Tuesday, I had a four-miler to get in. I started it off with my mother down to the lighthouse and ended it with my dad who I caught on the trail.
9:30 am: I ended my run and met my parents back on the main street for a visit to Crescent Bakery. I ate a doughnut from there every single morning I was in Frankfort. Addicted. On this morning I had a raspberry filled, chocolate glazed. I’d share a photo, but I ate it too fast…
We headed back to the house to shower, and I may have squeezed in a quick nap. I was desperately sleep deprived after moving on Sunday
2pm: Before I arrived on Sunday, a storm swept through the area, leaving parts without power for days. This meant lunch was cold sandwiches + chips at a restaurant in Empire before entering Sleeping Bear Dunes.
The park actually experienced a fair amount of damage from Sunday’s storms from 100mph winds. As a result, a lot of the park was closed for assessment. Thus, we headed to a trail suggested by the park rangers, Empire Bluff, and it did not disappoint. Actually, it was incredible. Would you look at that view of Lake Michigan?1
We hiked just short of a mile to the boardwalk and then climbed down to the beach (and by climb, I mean run/fall barefoot down the hill). By the time we reached the beach, we had the whole thing to ourselves.
6:30pm: Post-hike/swim smoothie time at Conundrum Cafe.
8pm: Ended a great day with a late dinner, cooked by my all-star mother.
How do you like to spend your vacation? Lake or beach?
